Ontario, Canada native Norma Jean Angel’s love of music runs deep. It shows in her unswerving movement towards her dream of rock stardom and in her award-winning work that has compelled the critics to rave: ‘'Sunday Brunch OceanMixx' carries knockout momentum built from a complex amalgamation of guitar gambits and cannily elocuted vocals freighted by unseen compositional gravities.’ Unlike many of her contemporary rock artists, however, Norma Jean Angel has an edge. Her music combines a flawless lyrical flow with evocative melodic elements. Coupled with original lyrics and a memorable hook, her new single ‘Sunday Brunch OceanMixx’ is attracting fans across the globe. Recently, reporter Blake Wright caught up with this intriguing artist to find out more about her musical inspiration and plans for the future.

BLAKE: When did your recording career begin? What inspired you to first make music?
NORMA JEAN ANGEL: My recording career began in the 90s while attending Goldsmiths University, I had the greatest pleasure to have had a great classical jazz music teacher who fell in love with my dreams and recognized my passion for creating music, and that I had great potential to become a Superstar, and go on to bigger and greater things. In between studying at University, I started my first band...My teacher was mesmerized by what he heard. He arranged for me to use the main hall to rehearse my band, then named, “BLIVIT”, which consisted of Terry T, on Drums, performed with the likes of Micheal Jackson, Chris Martin, from “Coldplay”, rock band and many other greats. Gavin Douglas, Bass player on the Jazz circuit with Jamiroquai, Paul Weller & The Jam, also the one and only Jonny Greenwood, guitarist/Keyboardist from the iconic Alternative Rock band “Radiohead”, myself Singer, Songwriter, guitarist and bandleader. This was a real blessing for me, to be surrounded by such great musicians at an early part of my career. I found out later that It was quite a privilege to rehearse in the Great Hall, the most prestigious venue on the campus that is regularly reserved for Graduation Ceremonies, important events, Classical music productions, Cinematic Theatre, plays, and exams. I was grateful for the opportunity to experience it. Things were happening so fast, enjoying the musical journey. My music tutor loved the fact that I was bold with enthusiasm, motivational passion and superstardom qualities, he advised that I should team with a major label for a record deal. But, I was having so much fun embracing the musical community, learning about the Arts, creating and performing with the band. Word traveled has other students and the public were hearing about me, the band, and our first live performance at the famous “Cricketers”, in London, which by the way, was sold-out! I gave what was an Excellent, Stunning performance, the audience was wildly crazy with excitement!! The fans were cheering enjoying the show, then halfway into the set, to my surprise, we were joined on stage by very Special guests, the great famous Bimbo Acock, Musician, Composer, ten times number one Saxophonist, alongside the great Mike Oldfield, Musician, Composer now dub the Grandfather of ambient, godfather of new age chill out and now Godfather of Scary movie film music. Mike Oldfield, is most famous for the masterpiece “Tubular Bells”. Well! After what was an Incredibly Amazing performance with such great musicians, we created a storm. The fans were happy, buzzing with excitement!! Loving it so much, just to show fans our appreciation, we performed an extended encore of which the crowd was cheering in amazement, and kept shouting more, more! They never wanted us to leave the stage. Wow! Incredible moments, memories to treasure!! We were immediately booked to perform again and sparked the attention of Media press, TV. and Major record companies who were totally intrigued by my stunning performance. From that night on, things just got better and better. Days after the show, Gavin bass player turn up at rehearsal to delivered a great big surprise news, that he had met with the famous band, “Living in a Box”, who was present at the show, they loved my music! Fast foreward, I had a fruitful meeting with the guy’s and landed what was my first break, to record music at the most notable, world class, world famous iconic, EMI Abbey Road Recording Studio. That was so cool, home to the likes of World famous iconic artist such as the Beatles, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Pink Floyd, Garth Brooks, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Adele, to name a few. Landmark recordings! That was the beginning of my recording career. P2 of Q1 - I’ve had the greatest pleasure to have traveled around the world many times, visiting some of the most gorgeous, beautiful exotic breathtaking places in the world, meeting some of the most fantastic Musicians from all walks of life. While living in Australia, I was quite fortunate to have a beautiful house, right in the middle of the very gorgeous suburbs Of Darlinghurst, in New South Wales, Australia, overlooking the spectacular breathtaking views of Port Jackson, Sidney Harbour, the largest most beautiful natural harbour in the world, opposite the famous landmark Sidney Opera House and Sidney, Harbour Bridge. It was certainly an Incredible experience, waking up to an absolutely Superb, Magnificent, iconic view. On a typical hot and extremely Sunny day, chilling out, relaxing, enjoying my SUNkissed moments, soaking up the real Aussie SUN, on the famous Bondi Beach. I met some really nice people who invited me for an evening out.. Huge Surprise!! I was honored to meet with one of my absolute favorite artist of all time, the Great Kris Kristofferson, backstage at the Sidney Opera House in Sidney N.S.W. Australia. Being in his presence, sharing the moments before his stage performance, was quite an inspiration for me. We spoke briefly about guitars! He gave a word of advice to always listen and learn from the Best, to always follow my heart and dream big! I was also inspired by a beautiful message written in his song, “Always help others and make people happy”. After watching what was an absolutely Stunning, Brilliant, Amazing performance, I was again positively inspired and thought to myself, I would love to do that!! I can do that!! And so, I began on the musical journey to create from beautiful memories that will never be forgotten.

My music has changed, I’m forever finding new possibilities and ways to expressing, emotions more, exploring new ways to conveying different experience’s through music, to reach out and touch the hearts of the people. As artists, We speak not only to our community but, to the world.
BLAKE: What is your creative process when it comes to songwriting?
NORMA JEAN ANGEL: Wow! When it comes to creating, I have been blessed to have a variety of ways in which to create music. Sometime’s I would just pick the guitar or piano and play a rhythm or melody, or sometime’s the lyric’s just flow’s, then I would spend a short or long period of time constructing a chord progression and/or melodies around it! There are times when I would team with other musicians, where I would create a song and have the musicians marry their musical parts into the composition. For me, there is so many different ways to compose songs. "All things beautiful," I never censor myself when I'm writing, cause, I’m such a darling! I write whatever I want, no matter what it sounds like or what it feels like, then curate later. The art of songwriting is the most meaningful part of this whole business for me. abstract writing, expressing my personal views.

BLAKE: How do you feel about the Internet in the music business?
NORMA JEAN ANGEL: The internet has changed the music industry greatly in both positive and negative ways. It has certainly helped in making music more accessible to the public. Music fans now have access to a lot of music they would never hear otherwise. It’s an incredible tool that enables Independent artist/musicians, to have more control over one’s art also gaining more exposure to wider diverse audiences worldwide, without backing or major labels. In this digital era the music business is still struggling to keep up with issues like illegal downloading, music sharing and more recent music streaming and streaming services. Musicians are musicians! They should not be fighting for there rights or be exploited. Robots are becoming quite popular in society. Now! The question is, Can we beat the robots?! Don’t be surprised, if you hear future news reporting of crowds attacking robots! Lol lo ha ha.. Computers don’t get distracted, computers don’t lose there focus and they are reliable. It’s the way of the world.

Great for me has a musician, playing an instrument I tend to naturally learn to play many other musical genres, making one more versatile to handle more than one or two styles. Being flexible, I was more in demand. However, what is considered to be the best decades, pre-50s Jazz, Rhythm n Blue, Rock n Roll 60s, Funk, Soul in 70s, 80s, Pop Progressive Dance, House, EDM 1900s, No doubt, the best music to date!, "is NOW," The 2000s.
