Like pop? Many do, perhaps in yearning for a return to great musicianship and melody. Here is a group that ably serves the feeling. Originating from Sacramento, Kirtan Club has quickly risen on the strength of their new award-winning single ‘Aum Namo’. With their new single steadily climbing the charts, Kirtan Club seems destined for the global limelight. Reporter Lauren Thompson recently caught up with the talented group to learn more about what inspires them to create their unique brand of pop music and what we can expect from Kirtan Club in the near future.

LAUREN: Let's just get this out in the open- What is the craziest thing that has happened to you in your music career?
KIRTAN CLUB: we did a 4 song set cause we ate b4 we performed & we got food poisoning :(

LAUREN: Your song ’Aum Namo’ is receiving a positive listener response on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
KIRTAN CLUB: sounds exciting

LAUREN: What was the inspiration behind your radio single?
KIRTAN CLUB: we have the best teacher in all the 3 worlds :)

LAUREN: It is often said that great art arises from difficult experience. Is there something in your life experience thus far that you would describe as the ‘catalyst’ or ‘fuel’ for your desire to create music?
KIRTAN CLUB: gotta luv what you do

LAUREN: How would you characterize yourself as an artist/musician?
KIRTAN CLUB: ez livin' & high thinkin'

 

LAUREN: What has your experience been like working with the other people on your team?
KIRTAN CLUB: they're the best, teamwork

LAUREN: Did you come from a musical background? Are there other musicians in your family?
KIRTAN CLUB: yes, pop was a 40's swing band singer, cousin is a drummer, wifie plays the harmonium

LAUREN: What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What do you find most challenging?
KIRTAN CLUB: rewarding? finalizing a single...challenging? staying within a budget

LAUREN: Who are your role models in music?
KIRTAN CLUB: Narada Muni, Hanuman, Sarasvati

LAUREN: Describe your best or most memorable performance.
KIRTAN CLUB: playing a 4hr set in the rain

LAUREN: What advice would you give to young, aspiring artists out there who are unsure and need guidance?
KIRTAN CLUB: follow your heart

LAUREN: What's next for you as an artist? Is there an album in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it?
KIRTAN CLUB: finalizing a remix (single), no LP in the works at this time.
