Perhaps that also explains why Emad Hamdy was the recipient of the prestigious Akademia Music Award for Best Pop Song on August 15, 2019. Reporter Lauren Scott recently caught up with Emad Hamdy to learn more about this intriguing artist and the inspiration behind what is clearly a captivating new sound.

LAUREN: Let's just get this out in the open- What is the craziest thing that has happened to you in your music career?
EMAD HAMDY: I was supposed to perform a masterpiece solo with the orchestra, there was no internnet at that time, so I had to search for the partitura (the music score for the whole orchestra instruments read by the leader.) by myself. When I found it, I had to write each instrument's music score with my own handwritting. My handwritting in music was very similar to the music scores written by computers nowadays. It was a challenging mission but when I performed the masterpiece, I was overwelmed with pride with what I had done.

LAUREN: Your song 'And I Love You So' is receiving a positive listener response on radio. What was your initial reaction when you first heard your song playing on radio?
EMAD HAMDY: I was flattered to hear my own song playing on the radio. I felt that my effort paid off. It was an enchanting step in my career. It encouraged me to exert greater effort to continue in my path of success.

LAUREN: What was the inspiration behind your radio single?
EMAD HAMDY: Looking to the type of music people listen to now, I set a goal to myself that the widest range of people should listen, admire, enjoy and taste a fine type of music.

LAUREN: It is often said that great art arises from difficult experience. Is there something in your life experience thus far that you would describe as the ‘catalyst’ or ‘fuel’ for your desire to create music?
EMAD HAMDY: I faced many challenges in my life. Some were close to disasters and others are still painful to remember but each stone thrown at me, I took it to build up my stairway to who I am today.

LAUREN: How would you characterize yourself as an artist/musician?
EMAD HAMDY: A serious acadmic artist always searching for uniqueness. I like to give every piece of music a different special taste and a unique spirit to reach the audience all over the world.

LAUREN: What has your experience been like working with the other people on your team?
EMAD HAMDY: I was honored to work with many great names in the music field. I had many various experience with different musicians and different instruments. This experience was like a mixture between different cultues.

LAUREN: Did you come from a musical background? Are there other musicians in your family?
EMAD HAMDY: No, I didn't. I came from an ordinary family.

LAUREN: What do you find most rewarding about being an artist? What do you find most challenging?
EMAD HAMDY: the most rewarding thing about being an artist is seeing the people's reaction after my performance. I feel happy when I listen how people enjoyed my music and how they are looking forward o my next step. On the other hand, the challenging thing is trying to spread the Classic music in an eastern society. It is difficult but I mostly overcame this challenge.

LAUREN: Who are your role models in music?
EMAD HAMDY: Of course, Mauricio Caroso, my tutor is my role model. He taught me music from A to Z. He supported me in every step in my career path. He is the main reason for who I am now. Also, Andres Segovia is my role model as he made many contributions to the calssic school in music. Also I was influenced by Narciso Yepes especially the way he performed Concerto De Aranjuez.

LAUREN: Describe your best or most memorable performance.
EMAD HAMDY: I still remember when I performed Concerto De Aranjuez with the orchestra. It was a facinating feeling to perform such a masterpiece. I felt that my 20 years of practice was represented in front of my eyes. There were such a great audience and I was very proud to be the only one in Egypt to perform solo in such a masterpiece.

LAUREN: What advice would you give to young, aspiring artists out there who are unsure and need guidance?
EMAD HAMDY: I advise them to keep trying to find a suitable place and tutor to guide them and never give up. Before I found my tutor I was lost and didn't know where to go, but I created an academic school to guide the young people so they don't face the same situaton.

LAUREN: What's next for you as an artist? Is there an album in the works? If so, what can you tell us about it?
EMAD HAMDY: My next goal is to continue seeking for uniqueness and to spread this fine taste and type of music now only in the Middle East but also all over the world. I set a goal to myself to be unique and special in every aspect of my music.

LAUREN: That sounds great! Thank you for giving us more insight into your life as an artist. I wish you much continued success in your career!
