ALEXIS: When did you first get that feeling that your music career was gaining momentum?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: Several indicators lead me to believe my music was gaining momentum however; the most important were music listener’s response and an important magazine feature. First indicator was a strong vibe that I was getting from family, fans & friends that listen to my music. Everyone was extremely excited to be a part of our creative movement. Secondly, there was a timely press release feature story of me generated by Parle magazine. The feature story highlighted my achievements in music. “Parlé magazine is a bi-monthly urban entertainment print publication established in 2004, featuring some of the biggest names in urban music, urban literature and urban film”. For more information visit: www.parlemag.com. Lastly, I submitted my music to the Akademia team and the rest was history.

ALEXIS: Is there an underlying theme to your latest single 'I Can't Breathe Feat. Planet Asia'?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: The underlying theme results from the George Floyd incident when he repeatedly told a police officer that he could not breathe. Despite his plea and posing no threat, the officer continued to use unnecessary force to subdue him. Unfortunately, racial discrimination and injustice continues to permeate our police departments around the country. The American police department must own their racial injustices. Their actions are currently intolerable. Police reform is paramount. My heart goes out to the families and victims of all racially motivated deaths at the hands of police officers. RIP George Floyd, Breanna Taylor and all the countless others. I would like to thank featured artist Planet Asia and his team for allowing this collaboration to happen.

ALEXIS: Does this theme connect to all of your recent musical works?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: Yes. There is a connection to this current theme with some of my recent musical work. I did a song entitled “just give us our freedom”. This song as well speaks to the racially motivated traffic stop and other problems our country still face such as systemic racism, police brutality, social and economic inequalities, etc.

ALEXIS: What is the quirkiest thing about you as an artist?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: There are several unconventional things about me however, at this this time I will only mention a couple. Some may consider me a little bit weird. Reason being sometimes, I wear gloves in the middle of the summer because my hands are cold. I actually suffer from a mild case of Raynaud’s disease. In addition, I love to eat cereal. I can eat cereal morning, noon, day or night. I also like to put sliced cheese in my cereal.

ALEXIS: When do your musical ideas come to you?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: My musical ideas come to me at all times however, mostly during the night. Whenever, I get an idea regardless to what time it may be I write it down. There have been numerous times that I recall being awaken by an idea.

ALEXIS: In addition to music, what are your other passions or interests?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with my wife and daughters. Whether it is going out to dinner or site seeing, I treasure every moment. I enjoy watching and playing basketball as well. I am a huge Los angeles Lakers fan. Extremely proud of what the Lakers were able to accomplish this year given the circumstances. The death of my all-time favorite player Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna was enormously heart breaking for me.

ALEXIS: What change or changes would you like to see in the music industry?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: I would like to see Independent artists have a better opportunity of charting Billboard Top 100. Consequently, I would like to see a system put in place that involves more dedication and consideration for the musical creativity of Independent artists. Currently the odds are stacked against us. I believe that the lack of opportunity is wrong considering the enormous talent pool. I know that there have been some charting successes of Independent artists however; the overall success remains relatively low.

ALEXIS: As you were growing up, what is one of your best memories associated with music?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: Growing up as a kid, the best memories that I had of music were mostly from my family. At the early age 13, my brother would introduce me to the music of George Clinton’s Parliament Funkadelic. My brother Andrew Clay Sr.who was a.k.a. Soul had an extensive music collection which was admired by most. I would accompany my brother around to various local DJ gigs. This would eventually lead to a strong love for hip-hop music. At the age 15, I started writing songs and performing hip-hop dance. This would lead to performing at various events around my hometown. My love for DJ turntables began at an early age as well. At the age of 17, before I was legally able to go to a nightclub I was a Club DJ.

ALEXIS: What is your proudest moment in your music career to date?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: I have been fortunate to have several music career proud moments. I received Akademia executive, visionary and artist of the year awards. I was also featured in Parle magazine, which is considered, “the voice of urban entertainment”. It is a terrific music source. However, the proudest moment in my music career was the day I heard our song Troubled times & troubled ways playing on the radio.

ALEXIS: What new music do you like?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: I consider myself an all-around person in life and as it relates to music. I listen to a variety of music genres such as jazz, country, classic rock, reggae-ton however, hip-hop happens to be my favorite. From today’s music artists, I listen to Dababy-rockstar, Lewis Capaldi – someone you loved, The Weekend – heartless, Tones & I – dance monkey, Jason Derulo-savage love and more.

ALEXIS: Which musician would you like to collaborate with most?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: The musician that I would like to collaborate with the most is the Dababy. I admire his style, delivery and obvious dedication to his craft. In addition, his accomplishments are extraordinary considering the short period of time he has been on a major platform. I believe that if we were to collaborate we would put out a great product. I take my craft seriously as well and my work ethic is off the charts.

ALEXIS: Are you working on new material now? If so, is it in a similar vein as your latest single or a radical departure?
DJ TROUBLE ENUFF: I am currently working on new material. Fortunate that I was able to secure artists features with four rap music icons. Those icons are Kxng Crooked, Planet Asia, Rass Kass & the Legendary Dog pound member Kurupt. My immediate project however, is a collaboration with Kxng Crooked. The song is entitled breathe. Although the title is similar to my current work, it is a radical departure from current material. Cannot wait to share it with the world.

ALEXIS: Sounds good. Congratulations on your success thus far! Wishing you much luck and prosperity in the year ahead!
